An Author Group from Xihua University Published 9 Articles on Secondary Analysis of the China General Social Survey in a Single Year
A author group comprising QIN Ting, WEI Pingqiang, ZHU Chengyi, XIE Yuanyuan and others has published nine articles (six journal articles and three preprints) based on secondary analyses of the China General Social Survey. Most of these articles focus on subjective well-being among various demographic groups and their associated influencing factors, while the remainder address topics related to education and/or health. These works were submitted or posted within a one-year period, from November 2023 to November 2024, suggesting that the authors intended to slice the research into the least publishable units.
Slicing publication practices raise debate within the scientific community. Some argue that such practices may cause fragmentation of academic research and waste the time of reviewers and readers. Moreover, these practices are believed to boost publication numbers rather than contribute meaningfully to the scientific community.
